About Queen for a Day
My
dear fellow Women of Royalty, I am truly grateful to you for visiting this
site. In your honor, a portion of the profits from this book is donated to the
Queen for a Day Foundation.
Queen for a Day hosts tea parties at hospitals with pediatric
oncology/cancer units or outpatient clinics. Illnesses can be horribly
painful for children, both physically and psychologically. They are
robbed of the wonder and joy of being children and their life is consumed
with fighting a battle that, sadly, many lose.
This program takes them away from the isolation they feel and provides a respite from their overwhelming fear. It gives each young cancer patient a chance to be a child again. When Queen for a Day comes to the hospital, there is a tea party in the patient's honor. She will have her very own coronation ceremony, and receive a real tiara donated by beauty queens across the nation. Most often a pageant titleholder will be on hand to perform the crowning. The Queen for a Day crown symbolizes that she is a champion over her illness. The girls are pampered with makeovers and manicures, and may participate in a variety of craft projects. When a child smiles and laughs with joy as she looks in the mirror at her tiara and makeover, she feels empowered as a true young lady of royalty.
A Heroes program for boys has been a
wonderful addition to the Queen for a Day program. It encourages
the
qualities of courage and bravery in boys. Local firefighters and
police officers attend the event to tell heroic stories and develop a
friendship with the patients. They brave young little men receive
firefighter hats, badges and other hero-themed gifts.
